NASA perseverance rover

NASA’s Perseverance rover is continuing to explore Mars’ Jezero Crater in its search for evidence of ancient microbial life on the distant planet.

The vehicle — NASA’s most technologically advanced rover to date — arrived on the red planet in February 2021 in a breathtaking landing captured by high-definition cameras

Description

Perseverance, nicknamed Percy, is a car-sized Mars rover designed to explore the Jezero crater on Mars as part of NASA’s Mars 2020 mission. It was manufactured by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and launched on July 30, 2020, at 11:50

Confirmation that the rover successfully landed on Mars was received on February 18, 2021, at 20:55 UTC. As of 30 August 2023, Perseverance has been active on Mars for 898 sols (923 Earth days, or 2 years, 6 months and 12 days) since its landing.

Perseverance found evidence of volcanic rock present in the Jezero crater, suggesting that lava may have flowed into the lake at some point in its ancient past. Alternatively the rock identified could have been transported from elsewhere on the planet, possibly due to running rivers
