We know a lot about the earth on which we live. Apart from its beauty and lush green valleys, there are many things present here, whose secrets we generally do not know. There are some astronomical events, the reason behind which may be known by science but for us they are like miracles. For example, the earth is round and it keeps rotating but why do we never feel it?
You must have thought about this question at some point or the other and you might have found its answer in science books. However, hardly anyone would remember this all the time. This is why you have to scratch your head to think of the answer. Let us tell you what is the reason that the Earth continues to rotate on its axis, even if we remain stationary at our place.

Actually our earth rotates on its axis 24 hours a day. The speed of the earth is 1600 kilometers per hour. Day and night occur in just one revolution. We are not able to feel it because we are also rotating at the same speed along with the Earth. The environment and everything around us rotates and our body becomes accustomed to this speed.

Not very sure, but I vaguely remember we had endlessly harassed our Geography teacher for an answer to the question.
His answer was similar to what is mentioned in the post above: We do not feel the rotation because we are on earth and rotating at the same speed.
Our question was something like, when a swimmer jumps from the top of say the 3rd panel into a swimming pool, while he is in air for 2 seconds, earth was moving, why did not the pool move away , the swimmer was in air and not on earth.
I think it took him a day or two to keep answering us.
Frankly I still dont get it? 😛

Sir they have a horizontal velocity = to the Earth’s rotation speed. When you jump, you still have this component and you therefore move in the same direction as the Earth.

That’s true, we atlrgued that as the swimmer was in air, earth was maintain speed nut the bumper might be deaccelarating. Frankly it was just to pull teachers legs. Thanks for your time for answering. I enjoyed going down the memory lane. Shall be calling a school friend tomorrow to talk about it just to remind of old times.
