Life on a large space station like the International Space Station (ISS) is different from life on Earth: 

• Living space: The ISS is larger than a six-bedroom house and has six sleeping quarters, two bathrooms, a gym, and a 360-degree view bay window. 
• Microgravity: The microgravity environment makes everyday activities more challenging, such as:
  • Washing hair with rinseless shampoo 
  • Using the bathroom by strapping themselves to the toilet with leg restraints and thigh bars 
• Hobbies** Astronauts can spend time on their hobbies, such as reading books or listening to music. 
• Views** The ISS has windows that offer views of the Earth and stars. 
• Exercise** Astronauts work out at least two hours a day to mitigate the loss of muscle and bone mass in the human body in microgravity. 

The ISS is about the size of two football fields and orbits above Earth around 250 miles. It has areas to conduct science experiments.

Astronauts can each bring a few of their own belongings to the ISS. They can spend time on their hobbies just like on earth—reading books they enjoy or listening to music. Also, the earth and stars that can be seen from the windows of the ISS are very beautiful, and some astronauts enjoy the views or take photographs.

During their stay on the International Space Station (ISS) astronauts have to continue living and working in an environment that is very different to that here on Earth. They still need to keep clean, go to the bathroom, eat and drink and keep fit and healthy

The only notable differences from life on Earth are that they work in the confined space of the Space Shuttle orbiter cabin and that they, as well as all objects inside, float. Some jobs, such as handling tools and fluids, become more challenging in microgravity on the Space Shuttle.
