Evidence of planet 9 shows that our understanding of gravity is incomplete

Evidence for the existence of a ninth planet in our solar system may indicate that our understanding of gravity is incomplete. Astronomers believe that orbital inconsistencies suggest the need to revisit our current concept of gravity.

Evidence for Planet 9 comes from its gravitational pull on other bodies. If the planet exists, its gravity will affect the orbits of other planets.

Planet 9 is a hypothetical planet lurking on the outer edge of our solar system. It has eluded discovery, but a new study has pinned down where it should be.

Planet 9 is expected to have an apparent magnitude fainter than 22, making it at least 600 times fainter than Pluto. Due to its extreme distance from the Sun, Planet Nine would reflect little sunlight, potentially evading telescope sightings.

Could data pointing toward a mysterious planet at the edge of the solar system actually suggest it’s time to revisit our theory of gravity? Evidence pointing toward the existence of an undiscovered ninth planet in the solar system may actually indicate our ideas of gravity are incorrect

MOND or Planet 9?

The connection between MOND and a hypothetical Planet 9 may seem odd, but it emerges from the fact that the primary evidence for this world — that supposedly lurks at the edge of the solar system — is the strange behavior of objects in a distant structure called the Kuiper belt. The Kuiper belt is a disk in the outer reaches of our cosmic neighborhood that hosts various icy bodies like comets and asteroids.

In 2016, some of these icy objects were found to have orbital anomalies and clustering unlike their fellow Kuiper belt dwellers  — and  this strange behavior, experts believed, could be the result of an undiscovered planet.

What is mond

MOND is an acronym for modified Newtonian dynamics.  It’s a hypothesis that proposes a modification of Newton’s law of universal gravitation to explain observed properties of galaxies. MOND is an alternative to the hypothesis of dark matter.  It aims to account for mass discrepancies in the universe without invoking dark matter.

MOND successfully explains many phenomena in galaxies. It seeks to replace Newtonian dynamics and general relativity.

MOND may also refer to:

  • A noun meaning “world” or “Earth”
  • A cheddar cheese cream puff sandwich
  • A cigarette packaging design
  • A German-born inorganic chemist who founded the chemical-manufacturing firm Brunner, Mond and Company

What is the modified Newtonian gravity theory?

Specifically, the theory holds that when gravity is well below the a0 value, its rate of change—including the curvature of spacetime—increases with the square root of mass (rather than linearly as per Newtonian law) and decreases linearly with distance (rather than distance squared

there evidence for Planet 9?

Although sky surveys such as Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) and Pan-STARRS did not detect Planet Nine, they have not ruled out the existence of a Neptune-diameter object in the outer Solar System. The ability of these past sky surveys to detect Planet Nine was dependent on its location and characteristics

What do scientists believe there is evidence for a ninth planet based on?

In 1992, the Kuiper Belt was discovered and with its study came more signs that Planet Nine may well exist. This vast region of the solar system beyond Neptune is believed to contain hundreds of thousands of icy bodies larger than 100 km (62 miles) across, as well as a trillion or more comets
