Finding a planet in a random galaxy

Astronomers have found possible planets in other galaxies using gravitational lensing. However, lensing events are random and don’t repeat, so there’s no way to confirm them.

Some possible planets found in other galaxies include:

  • HIP 13044 b: The first planet discovered around a star apparently from another galaxy
  • M51-ULS-1b: A possible exoplanet that, if confirmed, would suggest there are many other planets in other galaxies waiting to be discovered
  • Ringed Habitable Planet in Random Galaxy: A planet that’s the most Earth-like within 400 light years of our position

Other planets discovered outside the Milky Way galaxy include:

  • A planet discovered with the help of a supermassive black hole and Albert Einstein’s general theory of relativity
  • Wolf 1069 b, an exoplanet that’s around the same mass of Earth
  • TOI-733 b, a super Earth exoplanet that orbits a G-type star
