This picture has been taken from a separate space weather station of NASA to check solar winds. This picture is taken during the solar eclipse on October 14, due to which a dark shadow is clearly visible in some parts of America. This picture was shared by America’s Space Agency
Last week, a solar eclipse occurred on Earth. It was special in many ways because this time the astronomical phenomenon of ‘Ring of Fire’ was seen during the eclipse. This is such a situation when during an eclipse the Moon comes completely in the middle of the Sun and some light is seen emanating from all around it. The people of India were deprived of this astronomical event because when it happened, the sun was towards the other part of the earth i.e. America and Canada. America’s space agency NASA also captured a picture during this period, which is currently the center of attraction.
The image, taken by NASA’s Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera on the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR), captures the moment when the Moon lines up with the Sun and casts a shadow on Earth. During the solar eclipse on October 14, when the Moon was passing in front of the Sun, it cast a shadow on the Earth. DSCOVR, a joint satellite of NASA, NOAA and the US Air Force, has taken this picture from a distance of about 1.5 million kilometers from the Earth.
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, blocking the sun’s light from reaching the Earth’s surface. This happens during the new moon phase.
There are two types of solar eclipses:
- Partial solar eclipse: The moon only blocks part of the sun’s light.
- Total solar eclipse: The moon blocks all of the sun’s light.
The moon’s shadow consists of two parts:
- Umbra: A cone into which no direct sunlight penetrates.
- Penumbra: Reached by light from only a part of the sun’s disk.
Solar eclipses occur approximately every six months. The next eclipses are on:
- October 14, 2023
- April 8, 2024
You should never look at the sun with binoculars, a telescope, or your unaided eye without special protection. Astrophotographers and astronomers use special filters to safely observe the sun during solar eclipse
