Spaceship Neptune is a massive balloon that takes passengers on a six-hour round-trip journey to the edge of the atmosphere. It’s about the size of a football stadium.

Spaceship Neptune is made up of:

  • The SpaceBalloon
  • The Reserve Descent System
  • The Neptune Capsule

It’s designed to be the most accessible, sustainable, and safest spacecraft on or above Earth. It’s also the only carbon neutral, zero-emission way to travel to space.

Spaceship Neptune ascends 100,000 feet to the edge of the Earth’s atmosphere. It reaches peak height after one and a half hours before floating. Guests can soak up the world’s most epic views and witness the “Overview Effect” (Earth’s spherical curve).

Spaceship Neptune lands in the ocean using a proprietary splash cone. NASA deems water the low risk way to land spacecraft.

Spaceship Neptune was developed by Space Perspective. Space Perspective is based on Florida’s Space Coast. It was co-founded by human spaceflight veterans Jane Poynter and Taber MacCallum.

A ticket on Spaceship Neptune costs $125,000 per person. The company is taking reservations for 2025 and beyond with a $1,000 refundable deposit. Journeys are sold out until 2024.

Space Perspective says the price is justified because it’s a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity.

Spaceship Neptune will ascend to 100,000 feet (30,000 meters). It will float at this height for two hours. The descent will take two more hours.

Spaceship Neptune will reach the Armstrong Line, which is located at an altitude of around 12 miles (19 km). The air pressure at this altitude is so low that water boils at normal body temperature.

Spaceship Neptune won’t reach the Karman Line.

Spaceship Neptune has a backup descent system with four parachutes between the capsule and the SpaceBalloon. The parachutes can take over for the primary systems in the event of a contingency.

Spaceship Neptune lands gently in the ocean using a proprietary splash cone. A team retrieves the capsule and passengers for the return trip back to land.
