The largest simulation of the universe ever made is the FLAMINGO simulations. These simulations were carried out on the Cosmology Machine supercomputer at Durham over the past two years. They track the formation of the universe’s structure in dark matter, ordinary matter, and neutrinos, following the standard model of physics.

The FLAMINGO simulations were created by scientists from Durham University, Liverpool John Moores University, and Leiden University. The project was led by Joop Schaye, a professor at Leiden University. The simulations were part of the VIRGO consortium, which is dedicated to cosmological supercomputer simulations.
