James Webb telescope to study aftermath of big bang

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is a telescope that studies the aftermath of the Big Bang. It examines every phase of cosmic history, including: 

  • The first luminous glows after the Big Bang 
  • The formation of galaxies, stars, and planets 
  • The evolution of our own solar system 

The JWST has detected the earliest-known carbon dust in a galaxy. A team of astronomers spotted signs of the element in ten different galaxies that existed as early as 1 billion years after the Big Bang. 

The JWST also visualized the earliest stars and galaxies in the Universe, which formed during a period known as the “Cosmic Dark Ages”. This period was previously inaccessible to telescopes because the Universe was permeated by clouds of neutral. 

The JWST was launched on December 25, 2021. It is the most advanced and most expensive telescope ever built. It has often been referred to as the “successor” to the Hubble Space Telescope, which was launched in 1990.
