China launch pair of earth mapping satellites on its 50 th launch of 2023

China launched a pair of Earth-mapping satellites, known as Tianhui-5, on Tuesday night. The launch was the 50th launch of 2023. The Long March 6A rocket took off from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center. 

The satellites are dual-purpose, blurring the line between civilian and military applications. Satellites have a variety of uses, including: 

Communication relay, Weather forecasting, Navigation, Broadcasting, Scientific research, Earth observation, Reconnaissance, Early warning, Signals intelligence, Weapon delivery. 

China plans to launch more than 200 spacecraft on around 70 launches across 2023.
