Huawei Technologies vice-president Wang Lei stated that the network was “capable of transferring the data equivalent of 150 high-definition films in just one second”( source google)
China has launched the world’s fastest internet network. The network can transmit 1.2 terabits of data per second, which is enough to transfer the data from 150 HD movies in one second. This is faster than the fastest internet in the US, which offers 400 Gbps 5G internet speed.
The network was developed jointly by:
- Tsinghua University
- China Mobile
- HUAWEI
- CERNET.com Corporation
The network has passed all operational tests and has shown “stable and reliable” performance. The network is also cheaper and easier to manage than the previous 10 regular tracks that used to carry the same amount of data
China’s first permanent connection to the internet was on April 20, 1994. This made China the 77th country to go online. The connection was a 64K access line operated by Sprint, an American provider. State scientists in Beijing set up the connection. The Chinese government called it one of the country’s most important technology achievements that year.
China had intermittent access to the internet since May 1989. In 2008, China became the country with the largest population on the internet.
In September 2000, China created the first set of content restrictions for internet content providers. China-based websites cannot link to overseas news websites or distribute news from overseas media without separate approval.
