Scientists may have found a perfect solar system. The solar system of HD 110067 has six planets that are all about the same size. This star system may have even more planets. The Xbox system is about 100 light years away.
Most solar systems form from violent collisions between planets. This is how our planet and the moon were formed. Some planets become huge, like Jupiter, while others remain small, like Mercury.
Earth is in a perfect position. If the planet were angled differently, or if it were closer to or farther from the sun, temperatures would change drastically. This would make life on Earth impossible.
Our planetary system is the only one officially called “solar system,” but astronomers have discovered more than 3,200 other stars with planets orbiting them. But now researchers think that they have found the perfect solar system
The solar system is made up of the Sun and everything that orbits it. This includes:
- The Sun: A low-mass star that contains 99.86% of the solar system’s known mass
- Eight planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune
- 146 moons: All but Mercury and Venus have one or more moons
- Dwarf planets: Such as Pluto
- Comets, asteroids, and space rocks: Many of these objects
- Ice: And other small, icy objects
The four largest orbiting bodies, the giant planets, account for 99% of the remaining mass. Jupiter and Saturn together comprise more than 90% of the remaining mass.
The creation of our own solar system was a violent process. As planets were forming some crashed into each other, disturbing orbits and leaving us with giants like Jupiter and Saturn alongside relatively small worlds like our own.
In the system HD110067, as astronomers have rather drily named it, things couldn’t be more different.
The HD110067 system is a planetary system with six sub-Neptune planets orbiting a nearby star. The planets orbit in a precise, harmonic rhythm, with all six in direct resonance with each other.
The system is described as a “perfect solar system” and a “frozen-in-time cosmic wonder”. It offers astronomers a unique view of the initial conditions of planetary formation.
The HD110067 system is the brightest known system with four or more planets. Scientists began studying the star after noticing dips in its brightness.
The results of the work were published in Nature on November 29(full article source google)
