Osho theory of universe

As you go back and back in time, we would find the universe to be smaller and smaller, more and more contracted. There must necessarily come a moment when this whole universe was contracted into its very center. Then its expansion began, and that process has been going on ever since.

According to Osho, the universe is a living body and an organic unity. He believed that the universe is continuously expanding, and that the stars we see at night are traveling away from one another. Osho also believed that the universe was once so contracted that it was just its center, a zero.

Osho’s theories about the universe include:

  • Creation: Creations come and go, but we are a part of the consciousness that creates the universe. When the whole of creation dissolves, that consciousness is still present as a witness.
  • Self: In reality, there is no self. We are not separate from existence, but joined together in one universe.
  • Purpose: The universe is one.

Osho also believed that:

  • Life is a process, not a thing.
  • God is beyond the boundaries of mind and intellect.
  • All perceptions and conceptions about God will be incomplete.
  • Psychic phenomena such as “siddhis”, or superpowers, or astral experiences that came through meditation were simply distractions on the journey for the Truth.

What is wrong with the hypothesis that the universe was created, that it had a beginning? And why do you assert that it did not? Is it not a step in the right direction when science and religion agree

this big bang theory
is not totally accepted,
there are many other theories.
These are all guesses;
they are not proved yet,
nothing is proved.
In fact I don’t think that
it can ever be proved
how the world came into existence.

Something was always there –
whether it exploded or whether it grew slowly,
in one day or in six daysor in one single moment,
doesn’t matter.
There must have been something before it,
because only something can come out of something.
Even if you say there was nothing,
and it came out of nothing,
then your nothing is full of something,
it is not really nothing.

And one more thing: this big bang theory is not totally accepted, there are many other theories. These are all guesses; they are not proved yet, nothing is proved. In fact I don’t think that it can ever be proved how the world came into existence. It is impossible, because nobody was there to witness it, you cannot find an eyewitness, so all that they can do will be just guesswork.

And still I say the world was never created, there was no beginning

And when I say there has never been any beginning, I mean the beginning. Something was always there – whether it exploded or whether it grew slowly, in one day or in six days or in one single moment, doesn’t matter. There must have been something before it, because only something can come out of something. Even if you say there was nothing, and it came out of nothing, then your nothing is full of something, it is not really nothing

According to OSHO, the universe is a great university, and a chance to learn about one’s formless being. OSHO also believes that the universe is not unintelligent, but is made of pure intelligence.

Here are some other beliefs about the universe from OSHO:

  • The universe is eternal: OSHO believes that people are a part of consciousness that is eternal and already present at the moment of creation.
  • The universe is one: OSHO believes that people are not separate from existence, but are joined together in one universe.
  • The universe is a new being: OSHO believes that the universe is the center of a new being and energy that has arisen from the old.
  • The universe is everything: OSHO believes that everything is in the universe.
  • The universe is everywhere: OSHO believes that God is everywhere, just as a seed is in a tree.

According to OSHO, life has no purpose and is its own purpose. He says that life is about enjoying itself and delighting in itself. OSHO also says that life is not a performance or a business, but rather energy that is overflowing and dancing for no purpose.

OSHO also says that life is not somewhere waiting for you, but is happening in you. He says that life is not in the future as a goal to be arrived at, but is here now, in your breathing, circulating in your blood, and beating in your heart.

OSHO also says that the purpose of life is to learn and to love. He says that the purpose of life is to learn to love purely, and that love, the spirit, is the only true reality.

According to OSHO, the soul is a refined light that leaves the body and cannot be seen.  OSHO also believes that the soul exists after death and can transmigrate into other forms of life. OSHO believes that the soul is not individual, but rather a universal soul.  OSHO also believes that the body is the visible soul, and the soul is the invisible body.

OSHO also believes that the soul is born through decisiveness.

According to OSHO, meditation is the awareness that “I am not the mind”. It is a state of pure consciousness with no content. Meditation is a simple process of watching your own mind, not fighting with it, and not trying to control it.

OSHO also offers Vipassana meditation, which is based on a method of Gautama the Buddha. This meditation is for practicing awareness, watchfulness, mindfulness, and witnessing.

OSHO also offers Dynamic Meditation, which is a 60-minute meditation technique with five stages. The first stage is 10 minutes of fast, deep, and chaotic breathing. The other stages are:

  • Catharsis: 10 minutes
  • Jumping and shouting a mantra “hoo”: 10 minutes
  • Silence: 15 minutes

According to OSHO, people are part of an eternal consciousness that is already present at the moment of creation. OSHO believes that consciousness makes people aware of others and that they are different from them. However, when people are asleep, they are merged with the universe and there is no difference.

OSHO also believes that consciousness is part of the mind, and that consciousness can never transcend duality. He also believes that consciousness can know, watch, observe, experiment, define, and dissect, but that it cannot be defined.
