Some meteor showers to look out for in 2024 include:
- Quadrantids This meteor shower is known for its short, intense peak, which lasts about six hours. It’s best viewed in the Northern Hemisphere, and the best night to watch it is January 3–4.
- Lyrids This shower peaks on April 21–22, and is usually a moderate shower. It’s also best viewed from the Northern Hemisphere.
- Perseids This shower is active from July 17–August 24, 2024, with the number of meteors increasing each night until it peaks in mid-August.
- Geminids This shower peaks on December 13–14, 2024, and is known for its bright, plentiful, and colorful meteors. In 2024, the peak activity occurs right before the full moon.

- Delta Aquarids: July 29–30
- Draconids: October 8–9

According to a NOAA statement, the peak of Solar Cycle 25’s activity, known as “solar maximum”, is expected to occur between January and October 2024. This peak will be earlier, stronger, and longer than previously estimated in 2019
The peak is expected to have a maximum sunspot number between 137 and 173. Some say the cycle’s peak will occur a year earlier in mid-late 2024 and sunspot numbers will be twice the official prediction.
Stronger solar activity could bring more displays of the northern lights. Space weather influences weather on Earth, as well as spacecraft in near Earth orbit. However, on an individual level, people on Earth are unlikely to experience any effects of the solar maximum.

The current solar cycle is Solar Cycle 25, which began in December 2019. Solar cycles can last between 8 and 14 years and vary in intensity. Solar Cycle 25 is expected to continue until around 2030.
Solar cycles start with a solar minimum, when the sun has very few sunspots. Over the course of five or six years, sunspots increase to a maximum, then decrease back to a minimum. During a solar cycle, the sun’s stormy behavior builds to a maximum and its magnetic field reverses.
Solar Cycle 25 has ramped up faster than scientists predicted, producing more sunspots and eruptions than expected. As of January 20, 2023, Solar Cycle 25 was already 12% larger than Solar Cycle 24 at the same point in the cycle.

Venus will linger in the dawn in early 2024, but will not reach greatest elongation. Venus will not be retrograde in 2024.
The inner planets are closer to the Sun than Earth, so they rarely get far from it in the sky. This makes them difficult or even dangerous to see at times

Mutual alignments, when one planet overlies another as seen from Earth, occur about once every 30 years. An alignment of all seven planets as seen from Earth is likely to occur once in 22 billion years
