A new theoretical study suggests that our universe is expanding because it is colliding with and absorbing smaller parallel universes, called “baby universes”. The study’s calculations show that merging with other universes should increase the volume of our universe. 

Studies of the cosmic microwave background, the afterglow of the Big Bang, have revealed that our universe is experiencing accelerated expansion. However, not all scientists agree that dark energy is the cause. 

According to Scientific American, a civilization ranked class A could recreate the cosmic conditions that gave rise to its existence, namely produce a baby universe in a laboratory.
