According to Sciencetimes.com, the intense values can cause the atmosphere to escape and lead to a rapid loss, making Trappist-1e uninhabitable.
According to EarthSky, a new study published in August 2023 suggests that there’s a good chance at least some of the Trappist-1 planets do have water. If so, they might be habitable.
According to Wikipedia, Trappist-1 is a cool red dwarf star with seven known exoplanets. It lies in the constellation Aquarius about 40.66 light-years away from Earth. The planets are likely tidally locked to Trappist-1, such that one side of each planet always faces the star.
Scientists have discovered that a potentially habitable planet is having its atmosphere stripped, a process that may eventually render the world, Trappist-1e, inhospitable to life. The stripping appears to be caused by electric currents created as the planet races around its red dwarf host star
The habitable zone of the TRAPPIST-1 system is different from our solar system’s habitable zone because the TRAPPIST-1 star is cooler and emits more infrared radiation. This radiation is absorbed more efficiently by an Earth-like atmosphere. As a result, the habitable zone is farther away from the star
The TRAPPIST-1 star is an ultra-cool dwarf, the least massive type of star. It’s so cool that liquid water could survive on planets orbiting very close to it. The habitable zone of TRAPPIST-1 is so close to the star that even planet g has a “year” that lasts just twelve Earth days.
The location of a star’s habitable zone depends upon its luminosity. Because a star’s luminosity increases with time, both the inner and outer boundaries of its habitable zone move outward.
The the two zones do not line up exactly because the cooler TRAPPIST-1 star emitting more of its light in the form of infrared radiation that is more efficiently absorbed by an Earth-likeatmosphere. Since it takes less illumination to reach the same temperatures, the habitable zone shifts farther away from the star.
According to Space.com, the exoplanet Trappist-1e may be losing its atmosphere due to a “stellar wind” of charged particles from its red dwarf star
Here are some other factors that may contribute to the loss of Trappist-1e’s atmosphere:
- Joule heating The rapid change in the planet’s magnetic field creates strong ionospheric currents that can lead to Joule heating. This heating could boil away the upper atmosphere and eventually destroy the lower atmosphere over millions of years.
- Solar wind Electric currents in the planet’s upper layers can heat and expand gases, which can then be dispersed into space. Trappist-1e is a potentially habitable planet with an orbital period of 6.1 Earth days. However, the loss of its atmosphere could make it inhospitable to alien life. Space.com के अनुसार, एक्सोप्लैनेट ट्रैपिस्ट-1ई अपने लाल बौने तारे से आवेशित कणों की “तारकीय हवा” के कारण अपना वातावरण खो रहा है।
Here are some reasons why TRAPPIST-1e could be a new Earth:
- Habitable zone TRAPPIST-1e is located in the habitable zone of its star, which is the distance from a star where a planet can have liquid water on its surface.
- Earth-like TRAPPIST-1e is the most Earth-like planet in the TRAPPIST-1 system. It’s the only planet in the system that’s slightly denser than Earth, which suggests it may have a denser iron core. It also has a solid, rocky surface and is cool enough for liquid water to pool on the surface.
- Oxygen According to researchers, TRAPPIST-1e may have a lot of oxygen.
- Carbon dioxide According to one model, adding more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere could duplicate Earth’s temperature.
