Neuroscientist Moran Cerf said at the 2024 India Today Conclave that we might be able to cure cancer with Elon Musk’s Neuralink. Cerf also spoke about artificial intelligence and Neuralink implants, and the importance of leaders setting guardrails
Neuralink is a brain chip that is fully implanted and wireless, unlike other BCIs that are physically connected to a computer through a port in the skull. This pose an infection risk and limits real-world usage. Neuralink’s main focus is to help people who are unable to speak or write communicate with others by allowing them to control a virtual mouse, keyboard or send messages by thought.
The 2024 India Today Conclave took place from March 15–16 in New Delhi. Other speakers at the conclave included:
- Pro-eminent: Prime Minister Nरेंद्र Modi, Gृहमंत्री अमित शाह, and विदेश मंत्री एस जयशंकर
Technology like AI will not tell you if they are good or bad, it is up to human beings to decide how to use them. Implants like neuralink can give us the power of 250 IQ points or maybe solutions to cure cancer. It can also help us solve Maths and physics questions that we have been struggling with for years
Moran Cerf, a neuroscientist and professor of neuroscience and business, said at the 2024 India Today Conclave that we might be able to cure cancer with Elon Musk’s Neuralink. Cerf explained that Neuralink’s essence is that the brain has been the same for many millennia, and there are some limitations to what it can do.
Cerf is known for helping people and businesses use current knowledge about the brain to improve thinking, decision-making, leadership, personal development, and customer engagement. Neuralink is a neurotechnology company founded by Elon Musk with the goal of developing implantable brain–machine interfaces (BMIs). The company aims to create devices that can directly link the human brain with computers and other external devices.
Cerf also said that neuroscientists are looking towards a future where dreams can be transmitted, marking the next frontier in neuroscience.
Neuralink’s treatment uses a brain-computer interface (BCI) implant that’s surgically inserted into the brain to monitor and stimulate brain activity. The chip is placed in an area of the brain that controls neural impulses for movement, and then reads and transmits the brain’s impulses to an app placed in front of the patient. The app then produces outputs based on a user’s thoughts, such as controlling a computer cursor or keyboard using their thoughts alone
Neuralink’s goal is to help people with paralysis communicate by allowing them to remotely control devices using brain activity. In the future, Neuralink may help enhance user memory and cognitive abilities, restore a user’s motor, sensory and visual functions as well as treat neurological disorders like ALS or Parkinson’s.
The first human users will be people who’ve lost the use of their limbs, such as those paralyzed from stroke, traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury. The study may qualify people with paralysis due to cervical spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Launched in 2016, the private venture claims its neural device will allow people with paraplegia to regain movement and restore vision to those born blind. According to Musk, Neuralink implanted its first device in a patient’s brain on January 28, 2024
Will Neuralink make you smarter?
Improved ability to learn and remember new information
Neuralink technology could help us become smarter by connecting our brains directly to computers, allowing us to access vast amounts of information at any time. It could also improve memory recall by recording memories and playing them back at a later date
The Technology Behind the Neuralink Chip
Described as fully implantable and “cosmetically invisible”, the Neuralink chip uses thin, flexible threads equipped with 1,024 electrodes that record the activity of neurons, the nerve cells that send messages all over the body to drive nearly all human functions
What are the features of Neuralink?
Advanced Wireless Communication: A standout feature of Neuralink is its wireless system, which marks a departure from the wired connections of previous BCIs. This system offers high-speed data transmission, enabling real-time interaction between the brain and external devices
What diseases can Neuralink cure?
Neuralink could potentially cure Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, epilepsy and spinal cord injuries. This brain-chip interface (BCI) also has the potential to treat obesity, autism, depression, schizophrenia and tinnitus
How much does Neuralink cost?
How much would a Neuralink cost? Neuralink has not announced pricing for the implant. However, Bloomberg estimates the cost at $10,500 (around £8,300), and suggests insurance companies would end up being charged $40,000 (£31,500) for the procedure in the US
What are the risks of Neuralink?
The implantation of Neuralink devices involves brain surgery, carrying significant risks, including infections, bleeding, and damage to brain tissue
Does Neuralink use AI?
Musk has said that he thinks humanity will be able to achieve “symbiosis with artificial intelligence” using technology developed by Neuralink. Musk told “Artificial Intelligence” podcast host Lex Fridman in 2019 that Neuralink was “intended to address the existential risk associated with digital superintelligence
Has Neuralink been tested on humans?
A year after being cleared for the test, billionaire Elon Musk’s Neuralink has implanted its wireless brain chip in a human for the first time. Musk announced that the patient received the implant on Sunday and “is recovering well
Where is Neuralink implanted?
The agency pointed out that it can’t confirm or disclose information about a particular study. Neuralink’s device is about the size of a large coin and is designed to be implanted in the skull, with ultra-thin wires going directly into the brain
Elon Musk-led Neuralink, which focuses on addressing motor problems and brain issues, neuroscientists are looking towards a future where dreams can be transmitted, marking the next frontier in neuroscience.
Moran Cerf, Professor of Neuroscience and Business was at the India Today Conclave 2024. Cerf is known for helping individuals and businesses harness current knowledge about the brain to improve thinking, leadership, personal development, decision-making, and customer engagement.
Silicon Valley, known for its relentless pursuit of breakthrough technologies, is at the forefront of exploring how a deeper understanding of clients’ desires and behaviors can lead to more addictive products and services. According to Cerf, the intersection of neuroscience and business is about “turning our understanding of thinking into business, understanding emotion,” which is becoming a critical tool for companies aiming to stay ahead in the competitive market

Cancer isn’t going to get cured. There’s too much money for big pharma and the medical establishment in keeping it as something that requires ongoing treatment. Billions of dollars annually. That’s why we haven’t cured anything since polio in the 1950s.
