The film also depicts a dark vision of the planet, with consumerism and capitalism growing, and skyscrapers dominated by giant digital billboards. These scenes highlight social, economic inequality potentials that result due to unchecked technological progress.
However, some say that the technology in the film has not progressed as quickly as the original author of the book, P.K. Dick, thought it would. For example, the Earth did not become poisoned with radiation and pollution, and most people don’t live on out-world colonies

Here are some predictions about the future of Star Wars that have come true:
- Holograms The technology used in Princess Leia’s iconic message for Obi-Wan Kenobi in the 1977 original Star Wars film is now used in projected performances onstage remotely.
- Sarlacc escape scene Patton Oswalt accurately predicted the escape scene in 2021’s The Book of Boba Fett, including the pan down from the twin suns, Fett punching his way through the side of the Sarlacc, and the dramatic burst upward through the sun
