The balloons are sometimes left subject to weather patterns but can be equipped with a “guiding apparatus” to control their path.

They say they demonstrated the technique using one of the most notorious UAP incidents of recent times: last year’s flight of a Chinese spy balloon over the U.S., which ended in a shootdown by an Air Force jet above the Atlantic Ocean. They also analyzed imagery of a different spy balloon that passed over Colombia at about the same time.

“Our proposed method appears to be successful and allows the measurement of the apparent velocity of moving objects,” the researchers report.

Extraterrestrial equipment can be distinguished from a terrestrial object, not just by resolving unusual bolts or labels imprinted on its hardware but also based on its motion,” Loeb explained. “As mentioned in the DNI [Director of National Intelligence] reports in 2021 and 2022, unusual flight characteristics can serve as an indicator of an extraterrestrial origin.”

What are commercial satellites and what are they used for

Commercial satellites have many uses, including:

• Space launch services: Transporting cargo, astronauts, and eventually passengers to space 
• Communications: Relaying telephone, television, and other communications across oceans 
• Navigation: Determining precise locations by triangulating the position of satellites in the sky 
• Earth observation: Monitoring weather and climate, studying geological change, and evaluating the health of plant life 
• Research and development: Scientific research, technological development, and testing new technologies 

Commercial satellites are also used for broadcasting, fleet management, and other purposes. Commercial use of space began in 1962 with Telstar 1, which transmitted TV signals across the Atlantic Ocean. Syncom 3 expanded possibilities in 1964, broadcasting the Olympics
