The team says that when lunar soil is heated at 1,000 degrees Celsius, hydrogen and iron oxides within it undergo a chemical reaction that produces water vapor. It estimates that the process can create up to 76 milligrams of water from 1 gram of soil. The team explains that it uses solar energy to heat the soil

In the coming years, China and Roscosmos plan to create the International Lunar Research PStation (ILRSP), a permanent base in the Moon’s southern polar region. Construction of the base will begin with the delivery of the first surface elements by 2030 and is expected to last until about 2040. This base will rival NASA’s Artemis Program, which will include the creation of the Lunar Gateway in orbit around the Moon and the various surface elements that make up the Artemis Base Camp. In addition to the cost of building these facilities, there are many considerable challenges that need to be addressed first.

It intends to conduct lunar experiments using the Chang’e-8 mission, which could be launched by 2030.

China says it aims to build a research station on the moon by 2035 to carry out scientific experiments and resource development. Securing water, which can be used for oxygen production and fuel, is one of the major research themes.

Until now, attention has been focused on the ice contained in lunar soil, but China appears to have announced its new method to gain an edge in the competition with the United States over lunar exploration

In 2020, China’s Chang’e-5 mission retrieved lunar samples. Researchers have discovered that the minerals in this “moon soil” contain large amounts of hydrogen

In 2020, China’s Chang’e-5 mission marked the first time humans had retrieved lunar samples in 44 years. Researchers from the state-run Chinese Academy of Sciences discovered that the minerals in this “moon soil” contain large amounts of hydrogen, which reacts with other elements when heated to very high temperatures, producing water vapor, CCTV reported

After three years of in-depth research and repeated verification, a brand-new method of using lunar soil to produce large amounts of water was discovered, which is expected to provide important design basis for the construction of future lunar scientific research stations and space stations,” said CCTV.

The discovery could have important implications for China’s decades-long project of building a permanent lunar outpost amid a U.S.-China race to find and mine the moon’s resources.

The search for water has long been one of the top priorities for lunar exploration missions, but previous efforts had focused on the search for natural water reserves

Mission Moon: अब चांद की मिट्टी से बनेगा पानी, जानिए कैसे?

Mission Moon:

One ton of soil will meet the needs of 50 people Amidst the race between America and China to find lunar resources, Chinese scientists claim that about 51-76 kg of water can be produced from one ton of lunar soil. This would be equivalent to the daily consumption of more than 100 bottles of 500 ml water or 50 people.

Have the Chinese found water on the moon?

As Chinese scientists analyzed the soil samples that their lunar probe brought back from the moon, they realized something groundbreaking: There was water found along with minerals in the soil. Finding water on the moon is, on its own, nothing new.

Did they find liquid water on the moon?

On the Moon, water is found all over the surface, but it’s mainly in the form of ice and not pools of liquid water.

Who found water in the soil of the moon?

The definitive discovery of Moon water came in 2008, when India’s space agency ISROlaunched the Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft to lunar orbit. Chandrayaan-1 carried with it a NASA-provided science instrument called the Moon Mineralogical Mapper—M3 for short—that observed how the surface absorbed infrared light

Who found water on the moon, ISRO or NASA?

India’s Chandrayaan-1 played a crucial role in the discovery of water molecules on the Moon. Chandrayaan-1 was India’s first deep space mission. Among its suite of instruments, it carried NASA’s Moon Minerology Mapper (M3), an imaging spectrometer helped confirm the discovery of water locked in minerals on the Moon

How did India find water in the Moon?

Chandrayaan-1 mission, launched in 2008, played a pivotal role in the discovery of water molecules on the Moon. Solar wind, comprised of high-energy particles like protons, is known to bombard the lunar surface and is considered a primary factor in lunar water formation

What is the source of water on Moon?

Water may have been delivered to the Moon over geological timescales by the regular bombardment of water-bearing comets, asteroids, and meteoroids or continuously produced in situ by the hydrogen ions (protons) of the solar wind impacting oxygen-bearing minerals

Water is present on the moon in a variety of forms, including water ice, water in minerals, and water in the lunar dust

  • Water ice: There is an estimated 600 million tons of ice at the moon’s north pole, in sheets that are at least a couple of meters thick.
  • Water in minerals: Water is chemically bonded to lunar minerals as hydrates and hydroxides.
  • Water in lunar dust: Water molecules are likely trapped in lunar dust.

  • Water on the sunlit surface: In 2020, NASA announced the discovery of water on the sunlit surface of the moon in Clavius crater. The water concentration in the soil is roughly equivalent to a 12-ounce bottle of water per cubic meter

India’s Chandrayaan-1 mission also played a role in the discovery of water on the moon. The mission carried NASA’s Moon Minerology Mapper (M3), which helped confirm the discovery of water locked in minerals

Lunar water is water that is present on the Moon. The search for the presence of lunar water has attracted considerable attention and motivated several recent lunar missions, largely because of water’s usefulness in making long-term lunar habitation feasible
