Scientists of IIAC, Bangalore have developed a chip that can store and process data in 16 and a half thousand ways on a molecular or nano film. This can prove to be a revolutionary discovery. With this, India can become a global leader in the field of AI hardware.

New Delhi: Scientists of the Indian Institute of Science have developed a chip that can revolutionize the world of computing and artificial intelligence. The chip developed by the scientists of Bangalore-based IIAC can store data on a molecular or nano film. Can store and process in 16 thousand ways. Value of researchers

Researchers believe that through this development India can become a global leader in the field of Artificial Intelligence hardware development.

Which scientists were included in the team According to the study published in the science journal ‘Nature’, the team that designed this chip included IIAC’s Shritosh Goswami, Navkant Bhat, Deepak Sharma, Shanti Prasad Rath, Vidyabhushan Kundu and Shribrata Goswami. These scientists work in the Center for Nano Science and Engineering of IIAC.

Apart from these, it included Anil Korkamj of Texas A&M University, R Stanley Williams and Damin Thompson of University of Limerick, Ireland. Its development was completely done at IISc. Scientists from other countries helped only in simulation and modeling

New technology will bring revolutionary changes in the computer brain system. Machines equipped with this can learn from their surrounding environment. This can take Artificial Intelligence to new heights. According to Sritosh Goswami, who led the IISc team, neuromorphic computing has been one of the unsolved challenges for more than a decade.

He said that with this discovery we have achieved almost a complete system. He described it as a rare achievement.

works just like the human brain This discovery can bring a revolution in the field of AI. With this, Large Language Model (LLM) like Chat GPT can be run on laptops and smartphones. This technology solves the two major problems of AI – lack of hardware and high power consumption. The main part of this discovery is the molecular system developed by Professor Sribrata. Goswami

It uses the movement of ions to store and process data. This happens in the same way as it happens in the human brain. It prepares a molecular diary, which works like a computer. It saves a lot of energy and space.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis is towards making semiconductors in the country. His efforts may get wings with this discovery.

The IISc team in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is now working towards creating an integrated neuromorphic chip. The institute is now working towards developing a complete computer in a chip through this. Researchers believe that this discovery will make India a global leader in the direction of AI hardware development.

What is the government scheme for semiconductors?

The Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Schemeaims to offer financial incentives as well as design infrastructure support across various stages of development and deployment of semiconductor design(s) for Integrated Circuits (ICs), Chipsets, System on Chips (SoCs), Systems & IP Cores and semiconductor linked design(s) over .

What are the semiconductor projects in India 2024?

At SEMICON India 2024, PM Modi highlighted India’s commitment of over ₹1.5 lakh crore in semiconductor investments, emphasizing the need for supply chain resilience and aiming for an Indian-made chip in every device globally
