Therefore, America has started the work of building an advanced missile defense system to protect itself.

Donald Trump has long been a fan of the Israeli air defense system Iron Dome and initially suggested naming the new air defense system on the lines of Iron Dome. But US officials advised to change its name citing copyright and patent. However, this system will have nothing to do with Iron Dome and it will be a unique system in itself. The Israeli Iron Dome shoots down only those missiles that are dangerous to humans. The Iron Dome leaves such missiles that do not fall in the dangerous category. But Golden Dome will not be like that.

What will America’s Golden Dome program be like?

According to a report by news agency Reuters, Elon Musk’s SpaceX company has won the contract to build the ‘Golden Dome’. His rocket and satellite company is partnering with software maker Palantir and drone maker Anduril to manufacture key parts for the defense system. All three companies were founded by entrepreneurs who have been major supporters of Donald Trump’s politics. The Golden Dome will be different and advanced from any technology created in the world so far. No missile of its range has been made yet. Elon Musk’s company will design this system to protect America from any threats from hypersonic missiles, drone swarms and artificial intelligence.

Under this project, Elon Musk’s company will build more than 1000 satellites, whose job will be to orbit the world and detect whether any threat is coming towards America. These satellites will immediately identify any threat coming towards America and then destroy it. Apart from this, there will be 200 separate satellites equipped with missiles and lasers, whose job will be to shoot down enemy missiles. That is, no power in the world will be able to launch a missile attack on America. According to the report, SpaceX is trying to prepare a part of the Golden Dome called “Custody Layer”. It will work as a group of satellites that will detect missiles, track their trajectory and determine whether they are heading towards America or not

According to media reports, Elon Musk’s company will not manufacture the weapons to be installed in these satellites. Many experts believe that the cost of building the Golden Dome can exceed hundreds of billions of dollars. At the same time, the Pentagon has set a deadline to deliver the Golden Dome before 2030. SpaceX has estimated that the initial engineering and design cost for the satellite’s custody layer could be between $6 billion and $10 billion.
