A Veda is a collection of poems or hymns composed in archric Sanskrit by indo European people who lived in north west India during the second millennium BCE the vedas was passed down via a oral tradition for thousands of years before ved vyas is believed to have complied them in written form

The rigveda is the oldest known vedic Sanskrit text the main god of Rigveda is indra other gods are agni the god of fire soma the god of plants and medicine and Rudra the god of wind and storms the god according to vedas is Brahmin

There are four indo Aryan vedas the Rigveda contains hymms about their mythology the samveda consists mainly the hymns about religious rituals the Yajur Veda contains the instructions for religious rituals and the athar veda consists of spells against enemies sorcerers and diseases
