On January 12, 2024, NASA announced that it would provide an additional $100 million to commercial space station partners for the development of low Earth orbit destinations. NASA has Space Act Agreements with Blue Origin and Voyager Space to develop concepts for a new orbiting lab. 

NASA is working with commercial companies to develop new space stations that can provide services to NASA and others. This will ensure that the U.S. maintains a continuous human presence in low Earth orbit and provides direct benefits for people on Earth.

The International Space Station has been continuously occupied since November 2000. It serves as a home for crews of astronauts and cosmonauts and is also a unique science laboratory.

Together, Blue Origin, and Voyager Space have been awarded approximately an addition $100 million, which brings their total funding of the program to $172 million and $217.5 million respectively. Blue Origin and Voyager Space have Space Act Agreements with NASA

On January 5, 2024, NASA announced that it would add $99.5 million in funding to Space Act Agreements with Blue Origin and Voyager Space. The funding is for the development of commercial space stations that will succeed the International Space Station. 

The companies received their original agreements in December 2021 as part of NASA’s Commercial Low Earth Orbit Destinations (CLD) program. In late 2021, NASA selected Blue Origin, Nanoracks/Voyager, and Northrop as CLD team leaders.

The International Space Station (ISS) took 10 years and more than 30 missions to assemble, with construction completed in 2011. The ISS is the result of collaboration between five space agencies representing 15 countries

Russia plans to build its own space station, the Russian Orbital Space Station (ROSS), in two stages. The first stage is planned to launch between 2025 and 2030, and the second between 2030 and 2035. 

The Lunar Gateway, a new scientific space station, is planned for launch in November 2024. It will be able to support a crew of four astronauts

Yes, NASA plans to build a new space station called the Lunar Gateway, which will be located near the moon. Construction could begin later this decade. NASA expects the station to play a key role in its plans to maintain a human presence on the moon and eventually send astronauts to Mars and beyond

India is also planning to build its own space station, the Bharatiya Antariksha Station (Indian Space Station), by 2035. The first space station module is planned to launch in 2028, and the station is expected to be completed by 2035
