India Supercomputer: India has taken a big leap in the field of technology by launching the ultimate ‘Rudra’ supercomputers. This supercomputing system with a processing capacity of 1-petaflop can process very heavy data in the blink of an eye. The calculating speed of a computer is measured in petaflops. This is equivalent to one quadrillion (1,000,000,000,000,000) floating-point operations per second. India also launched High-Performance Computing (HPC) system on Thursday. These have been named ‘Araka’ and ‘Arunika’. Come, let us tell you in detail about the supreme ‘Rudra’, Arka and Arunika.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated three PARAM Rudra Supercomputers to the country on Thursday. These have been built in the country at a cost of Rs 130 crore, under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM). These supercomputers have been named after Lord Shiva. According to reports, the processing speed of this supercomputing system is 1 petaflop per second. That means they can execute 1,000,000,000,000,000 floating-point operations in one second. This is an extremely fast computing speed for a single machine.

Where are the ultimate ‘Rudra’ supercomputers installed, what will they do?

Three PARAM Rudra Supercomputers have been deployed in Delhi, Pune and Kolkata. These supercomputers have the potential to bring radical changes in the field of radio astronomy and meteorology.

According to the official website of PM India, the Giant Meter Radio Telescope (GMRT) installed in Pune is one of the largest telescopes in the world. It will use the PARAM Rudra supercomputer to detect Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) and other astronomical phenomena. This will help us uncover all the mysteries of astronomy, including black holes and the origin of the universe.

PARAM Rudra Supercomputer installed at Inter-University Accelerator Center (IUAC) in Delhi will promote research in the field of material science and atomic physics. The third Param ‘Rudra’ supercomputer has been installed at SN Bose Center in Kolkata which will help in advanced research in areas like physics, cosmology and earth science

What are Arka and Arunika? What speed and where will it be used?

PM Modi also launched two new high-performance (HPC) systems on Thursday. They have been named ‘Araka’ and ‘Arunika’ which are based on the Sun. The combined processing power of these systems, built at a cost of Rs 850 crore, is 21.3 petaflops. Both of these will replace the already existing HPC systems – Pratyush and Mihir at the National Center for Medium Range Weather Forecast (NCMRWF) in Noida and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in Pune

With the help of Arka and Arunika, high-resolution models will be generated which will significantly increase the accuracy and lead time of predictions related to tropical cyclones, heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, hailstorms, heat waves, droughts and other critical meteorological events. With their help, India is ready to become a big player in the field of meteorology.

Is this achievement important?

Be it the ultimate ‘Rudra’ supercomputers or HPCs like ‘Arka’ and ‘Arunika’, with their help India has taken a huge leap in supercomputing technology. With the help of the combo of Param Rudra, Arka and Arunika, India is set to make significant contributions in fields ranging from astronomy to weather forecasting. This will further strengthen India’s position in global research.

What are supercomputers

Supercomputers are high-performance computers that are used to solve complex scientific and industrial problems. They are made up of many processors that work together in parallel, and are capable of processing large amounts of data at high speeds

Here are some things to know about supercomputers:

  • How they work Supercomputers use parallel computing to split tasks into multiple parts and work on them simultaneously. This allows them to complete jobs that would take years on a general purpose computer in a matter of hours or days

What they are used for

Supercomputers are used for a variety of applications, including weather forecasting, quantum mechanics, and physical simulations. They are also used in science and engineering to test simulations that help predict climate change and discover new chemical compounds

How they were developed

The term “supercomputer” came into use in the early 1960s, when IBM and Sperry Rand released the IBM 7030 Stretch and UNIVAC LARC, respectively. These were the first supercomputers designed to be more powerful than the fastest commercial machines at the time

How they are programmed

Supercomputers often require special programming techniques to take advantage of their speed. It can be difficult to debug and test parallel programs, so special techniques are needed for these applications

What is a supercomputer short answer?
