The Stars We See: Mostly Alive and Kicking
The short answer is yes, most of the stars we see with the naked eye are still alive. Here’s why:

• Distance matters: The stars we see are relatively close to us, within a few thousand light-years. This means the light we’re seeing left them only a few thousand years ago.
• Stellar lifespans: Stars have lifespans of billions of years. Even the most massive stars, which burn through their fuel quickly, still live for millions of years. A few thousand years is a tiny fraction of a star’s lifespan.
  However, there are exceptions:
• Supernovae: Occasionally, we see a supernova, which is the death of a massive star. These can be seen with the naked eye, but they’re rare events.
• Very distant stars: While most stars we see are relatively close, some are much farther away. If a star is millions of light-years away, it’s possible that it has died since the light we’re seeing left it.
  So, the next time you look up at the night sky, rest assured that most of those twinkling lights are still shining brightly.
