Reports indicate that on the night of May 7th and 8th, 2025, Pakistan attempted to attack 15 cities in Northern and Western India using drones and missiles. The targeted cities included:

  • Awantipura
  • Srinagar
  • Jammu
  • Pathankot
  • Amritsar
  • Kapurthala
  • Jalandhar
  • Ludhiana
  • Adampur
  • Bhatinda
  • Chandigarh
  • Nal
  • Phalodi
  • Uttarlai
  • Bhuj
According to reports, India’s Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems successfully neutralized these attacks. There are claims that the S-400 air defense system, dubbed “Sudarshan Chakra,” played a crucial role in intercepting the incoming drones and missiles. Debris from the neutralized attacks is reportedly being recovered, which India states serves as proof of Pakistan’s aggression.
In response to these attacks, India’s armed forces targeted air defense radars and systems in Pakistan, including one in Lahore. India stated that its response was in the same domain and with the same intensity as Pakistan’s actions.
Furthermore, there are reports of intensified unprovoked firing by Pakistan across the Line of Control (LoC) using mortars and heavy artillery in areas of Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir. Tragically, these actions have reportedly resulted in the loss of sixteen civilian lives, including women and children. India claims it was compelled to respond to halt this firing.
These events follow India’s “Operation Sindoor,” a military action against terrorist camps within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, which was conducted in response to a previous terror attack in Pahalgam. This recent exchange marks a significant escalation in tensions between the two countries.
    General Information about India-Pakistan Conflicts:
India and Pakistan have a history of conflict stemming from the partition of British India in 1947 and the unresolved issue of Kashmir. They have fought several wars, including in 1947-48, 1965, and 1971. The 1971 war was particularly significant as it led to the creation of Bangladesh.
Tensions have persisted over the years, marked by border skirmishes, cross-border terrorism, and periods of heightened military activity. Both nations possess nuclear weapons, adding a dangerous dimension to their rivalry. Diplomatic relations have often been strained, with periodic attempts to normalize ties facing setbacks due to major security incidents.
