The ‘senior citizen’ of the universe came from outside to Earth’s solar system, does not even care about the sun

Scientists estimate that this object can be 9 to 24 kilometers long. This is not an ordinary comet, but an interstellar object

Space has surprised us again. Recently scientists have seen a new ‘guest’ in our solar system. Its name is 3I/ATLAS! This comet is an interstellar object that has come from outside our solar system. On July 1, 2025, NASA’s ATLAS telescope in Chile sighted it. When it was seen twinkling in the shadow of Jupiter

Scientists observed that its path is so crooked that it is not bound by the gravity of the sun. That is, it is not paying any attention to the gravity of the sun. Its path is so crooked that it will just take one round in our solar system and then say bye-bye and disappear into the depths of space! That is, it is not a regular comet, but an interstellar traveler. Which has come out of its home and left after asking the stars of our solar system for tea and water 💧

According to a report by National Geographic, scientists say that this comet could be 7 billion years old. The surprising thing is that the age of our solar system is only 4.6 billion years. This means that this object is a ‘senior citizen’ of the universe which came to our solar system just to give us a glimpse.

How is the look and style?

Size of 3I/ATLAS? Scientists estimate that it can be 9 to 24 kilometers long. Sarah Greenstreet of Washington University says

At present it is difficult to say how big it is. Depending on the amount of sunlight it is reflecting, its length can be from 6 to 15 miles (9 to 24 kilometers).”

But the cloud of dust and gas surrounding it makes it even more magnificent. It is made of a lot of ice. And as it is moving closer to the sun, that ice is melting and turning into steam. The result? A shining tail, which is increasing its glory in space. This tail is so spectacular that if you look at it from a distance, it seems as if a laser show is going on!

Not much information is known about 3I/ATLAS yet. But its movement in the solar system is helping astronomers. Esther Taylor, an astrophysics student at the University of Michigan, said, “It will come inside the solar system for the next few months. After which it will return. It is moving very fast. But we have time to track it.”

ACCORDING TO THE REPORT, 3I/ATLAS WILL MOVE TOWARDS THE SUN AND REACH A RADIUS OF ABOUT 3 MILLION KILOMETERS FROM MARS IN EARLY OCTOBER. There are many spacecraft around the red planet at the moment. More studies of 3I/ATLAS can be done with the help of the cameras installed in these. Greenstreet says,

“In the coming months, images of this beautiful comet-like object will be seen when it passes near our galaxy.”
